renders take forever

I have just finished a couple of projects using Vegas6 and DVD Architect3. My problem is this both projects took very, very long to render on a Gateway 2.4 gig laptop with a gig of ram. I am using Win XP sp2. I am using a combination of Internal (2) and external (3) drives.
One project was only a 2 min. conversion from avi to mpeg1 and it took over an hour. The second was a 56 min project of a family reunion with a some transitions, extra audio, and 30 min of fx to brighten the final product. (I shot about 30 min. indoors with mood lighting.) :- ( It took more than twelve hours!),
BTW, I started the second project in Premiere Elements and buned a disc in less than two hours, but I wasn't happy with the brightness levels so I redid the project in Vegas.
I have done projects in Vegas 3, 4 and 5, without this problem.

certain fx take longer to render then others. that's normal (using magic bullet can increase render times from minutes to hours, for example). if you could give more info (as in what you exactly used) then people could be of more help.

I used Excalibur 4.5 to process the color corection and brightness fx and the audio speech and music levels. the transitions were mostly dissolves and a two wipes.
What about an hour for a 2min. render with no scripts, no extra audio, and no transitions or fx's.

Could you have had 3d track motion turned on? Could I see the 2 minute VEG file? It might be possible to find the cause by looking at either of the VEG files.

Ed,
I can't paste the veg file to this message board. If you respond to me in private I can send either veg file to you using Outlook.
