Rending issues in Vegas Pro 8

I'm having trouble rendering a video. I've tried a few different settings and i keep getting the same problem. When I start rendering it stays on 0% while both the timers continue to go up. I have left it for about 30 mins and when I came back it was still at 0% and the timers where still going up.

How do I fix this?

And what is the best render setting for a video that will be on dvd?

I had a render that went for 4 days once. So it wouldn't reach the 1% render until after an hour.

Try to render the first 1% to give you an idea if you really have a problem or not. You can watch the frame count while the render is occurring, so that should be changing during the render.

Source video specs (use Mediainfo)?
Render codec and template?
Length of video?
