replace media on timeline with something else

Thanks Johhnyroy for helping me with in and out points.

Here's another thing that's been bugging me with Vegas forever - when I drag a clip from the trimmer to the timeline it over-writes the media but leaves the media 'underneath'. Normally not a problem but if I play with opacity of the new clip there's the old one! Any way to simply swap out a shot for another one?

And why does it seem kinda random when I over-write a shot if I have track motion keyframes maybe they get deleted or maybe not... any trick there to copying and pasting a video clip and taking the track-motion keyframes with it every time?

You can replace the media by clicking "replace" in the media pool, you can also right click/drag the new media to the timeline and drop on undesired media, and choose "add as take." Any filters, crops, etc on the old event will become properties of the new take.
To remove a take, right click the event and choose "Choose Active" and in that dialog, you can delete the events you don't wish to use.
Track motion keyframes are not assigned to events, they are assigned to the track. Therefore, copying an event where there are no track motion keyframes assigned to that portion of the timeline, will not include track motion keyframes. Are you sure you're not seeing event keyframes on the track motion keyframe indicator, and those are what are being moved or not moved? Maybe I'm not correctly understanding your question.

Thanks for your reply.

Not what I'm after. Simply replace a shot on the timeline with another... see below! :)

OK that is now the coolest thing ever - right click drag. Amazing. Thanks. That will do nicely.!!

Fine but they why do the keyframes sometimes disappear if I delete a clip? And it seems to be very finicky as to where my timeline cursor is or ... I don't really know. I can get shots swapped out sometimes but it takes careful mousing. In the mean time I've got this little two-step approach that takes time but works ... I suspect your add as take option will save the day.
