Replace video file in existing DVDA3 Project?

I'm completing a DVD that consists of 5 one act plays. After the menu page was set up, I needed to rerender several of the source videos.

I found no direct way to replace the videos in DVDA3 since when I added the new files and tried to render, the process halted because it could not find the old files. Eventually I resorted to deleting the old files and renaming the new files to match the old file names.

Seems like it should be a little easier than that. Am I missing something??

Thanks,

RalphM

I don't think so... Renaming to match is the easiest route since you don't have to go through and re-do all your links. Chapter markers could use to be re-done to match the new video in v.4 (not sure on v.3) because they're located on I frames, but DVDA will find the closest one on render anyway. I haven't had any problems after removing any video as long as I also removed or changed any links to it, if that helps.

If you've got an involved menu system might also try templates when changing things around. If for example you add or lose chapters it can save some time re-doing scene menus.

Thanks MPM,

I'd have thanked you earlier, but internet was out from the 20th till the 24th.

I'll have to look at the template approach. The renaming worked fine although I did forget to change the end points to accomodate all the slightly longer video files on the first rendering.

Fortunately, the chapter markers were not a problem as the individual titles were no more than 15 minutes long. I just set chapter markers every three minutes to allow stepping through the title. Replacing a file then makes no difference.

Thanks again,
