I have had the Epson Artisan 810 for about a year. It was about $120. The color is great, it's reasonable fast for a home printer, and the scanner/printer/fax interface is okay. Costco is now starting to carry the ink so the print is getting better on that.

It has become increasingly difficult to find printers with the print-on DVD function. Previously I had an HP 5400-something. That lasted only about 200 disks. So far I've done about 200 on the Epson. I hope it has some life left as I am about to print another 200 . . .

For those that have run into problems with the Epson R200 series printers printing on CD's/DVD's - this may seem obvious, but when it loads the "tray" it sticks out the back of the printer about a foot or so. If it runs into anything behind the printer, it aborts the load and spits it out. Make sure you have the clearance behind the printer !!! (been there, done that :-) )

I just printed my first set of three DVDs on the Canon IP4920 and I am happy with the results. It is fast and straightforward. I paid $89.99 and B&H Photo, free shipping.

I also bought Acoustica's CD/DVD Label Maker for $21 because the Canon label maker is pretty lame (as was Epson's). Acoustica has a lot of free artwork on their website which I'll use for many of my DVDs.

+1 for Acoustica. Someone on this forum recommended it some years ago, so I owe them a "thank you". My only problem was figuring out how to print to a small CD/DVD hole, but I eventually got it. Can't remember the config, but if you run into the same conundrum, post back here and I'll go up to my desktop and figure it out.

Jerry, I am having problems with the small hole DVD but I think it is a template issue. They have two templates for the IP4920 - Full DVD (i.e., small hole) and DVD (large hole). When I print large hole all is well, but for small hole the image is shifted up about 8 cm. I've posted this on their forum and am hoping for an updated template. But if this sounds like the problem you resolved I'd like know what you did.

You can adjust all templates and fine tune them in Acoustica. I believe it is under the FILE menu.

You can change the size of the hole, up and down as well as left right.

Dave, I tried adjusting the image down but they limit you to 29mm. I'll look at reducing the hole size on the large hole template - I didn't notice that before.

Yeah, DaveT2 was pretty close. It's under File->Edit Paper/Printer Templates.

jerry,

For Canon CD Label Print:

Go to File / Select Paper. Standard CD (12cm) will be highlighted. Click "New" and it will take you to a page where you will be able to give the exact inside and outside circle dimensions. You can go as small as 17mm. Once you have the right dimensions for your full face disc save it under a new name and it will be there for you next time you need it.
