Replacing HD files with SD Files. Blu-ray to DVD

Hi. I have been doing a few wedding videos lately and I offer 1 Blu-ray disc and 2 dvd's to each client. However, I have found this very time consuming, as I first render out the HD files in Vegas Pro and author and write to Blu-ray in DVD Architect Pro. After completing the Blu-ray in DVD Architect, I then render out the HD files to SD mpeg files in Vegas Pro, and re-create everything a second time in DVD Architect and burn to disc. Is it possible to change the properties in DVD Architect from Blu-ray to DVD and replace the HD files with the SD mpeg files without having to go through the entire authoring process again?

There have been countless posts about this - some of them may appear in the VegasPro section.

The answer is you can do replace in same authoring project - but

1) Subtitling will be thrown amuck - will have to be tweaked for each version

2) Project directory structure has to be the same, the replace operation has to replace a HD file with an SD file of the exact same name, actually the exact same OS path name.

3) Menu structures that are basic may survive - but watchout for menu complexity and design issues.

I've never found it practical to repurpose projects in Architect.

The process works as described and could be considered an advantage of DVDAPro in a small authoring environment versus other tools.

The process really has two major uses as I see it.
1) For the producer who wants to spend a lot of time setting up the process to repeat this task for a number of projects - the template is worth it. BUT Keep it simple.

2) For the producer who wants a basis for creating a simple DVD and a more feature enhanced Blu-ray version - there is an advantage in making the template migrate from SD to HD in a pre-production stage, then finalize two independent authoring projects for each respective type.

Hi Thanks for the response. I'll give it a try. I don't want to save it as a template as every wedding is different. I just want to save some time rather than recreating the look and structure a second time

Ken, I also cover weddings and do this a LOT.It's very simple.

Obviously you need an HD file and an SD version. I've found it best to start with HD. Complete your HD project, then change the project properties to SD. (file/properties)

Now just replace your HD file with the SD version (media properties/track media/select the track for a drop down list/REPLACE) Media properties is top right of the screen.

You definitely DON'T need the replacement file to be the same name doing it this way.

Hi Arthur. Many thanks for your advice. I had read or heard that there was a "Replace" feature, but till now I never knew where to find it.

DVDA isn't the most intuitive of programmes is it? But once you get your head around it you can put things together pretty quickly. This 'replace' feature has been a great time saver for me. Having said that, I'm also using TMPGEnc authoring works for BD a lot these days as you can produce pop-up menus - which DVDA can't. :-(
