Replacing my new Audigy 2 card

Sooo... I'll be giving my Audigy 2 card to my 13 year old for gaming. Because the consensus is that I should try anything but that for recording. (Oh, if I could have discovered these forums before I spent the money) I'm attemping to narrow down my search.
Here's what I got: generic PC, Pentium 4 2.4mhz, 1 gig RAM, Vegas vs.1, 7200rpm 8mb buffer harddrive(80G).
What I would like to do is record at 24bit, 96,000hz since I was already able to achieve 16bit 48,000 with my old Sound Blaster live.
Is there a reasonably priced card that can do that, and connect to a PC surround sound?

Have you tried recording with the audigy 2? I've been using it with Vegas 4.0 and do not have any problem. Multichannel and all! I don't use any of the software that came with the audigy 2 except the drivers. Just Vegas! I have a high end sound system and the recordings are wonderful. I know some people have had problems but give it a chance and try it. You will have to create a Vegas project with the 24/96 ASIO driver selected in preferences before you record. Then select 24/96 in your Vegas properties. Open an audio track or three and select the input you want for each track. Six channel sound recording at 24/96...all for $200. I have the Audigy 2 ex version. 2Gig P4 system.

Well, if you want my personal opinion, I'd say go for an M-audio card. If you want to mix in 5.1, there is the M-audio Delta 410. If two-channel sound is enough, the M-audio Audiophile does 24/96 like a breeze, and is a VERY priceworthy card.
