Replacing the SoundTrack

I've just tried to rebuild an earlier project.

Because of noise on the original, I reloaded the MPEG into Vegas and used a noise reduction facility to reprocess the aoundtrack. I then exported this adjusted audio as an AC3 file.

Back in DVDA, I reloaded the original project. The object of the exercise being to replace the original, noisy audio with the new, reprocessed stuff and generate a new DVD.

Here's what I did - (lets call the original movie Foo.mpg and the new soundtrack Bar.ac3)

The main menu has three options: play movie, scene selection and slide show. I selected Play Movie from the drop down list at the top of the IDE. This took me to the standard movie view, with the original chapter points arrayed at the lower edge. On the Media Properties panel, on the right, both video and audio selections pointed to Foo.mpg. I changed the audio selection to point to Bar.ac3

I clicked on Make DVD -> Prepare DVD -> Optimize

This now showed two(!) instances of Foo.mpg. The only difference was that one had a green checkmark against its AC3 audio, the other had a yellow diamond against its AC3 audio, indicating that recompression would be necessary (the project is configured for AC3 audio).

I ignored this, thinking that it was just an anomalous display glitch, and proceeded to create the movie. However, the display wasn't kidding: the prepared files in the VIDEO_TS folder do have the movie repeated, once in VTS_01_x and once in VTS_02_x

It seems to work Ok, but had the original movie been larger, it wouldn't have fit the disc. And, of course, it's just plain wrong.

Can anyone spot where I left the beaten track, or even just give me guidance on replacing the audio for the reasons I've given?

Thanks!

-Pete

I think I might be able to answer my own question here.

The original project had animated chapter points (thumbnails). I see that these link not only to the video of the movie but also to the audio, and thus, without intervention, to the original soundtrack. (Curious that, as they don't actually produce any sound).
In other words, loading a new soundtrack for the movie doesn't automatically enable the new soundtrack for any animated thumbnails. In fact, if you set the audio for a chapter point thumbnail to <nil> and then use that thumbnail to start the movie from that point, the movie is silent! Playing the movie from the beginning however is fine; sound is still present even when the offending chapter point is reached.

Whatever, by introducing a new audio track I seem to have compelled DVDA to load two copies of the movie and the only way out of it is manually to reset all the thumbnail audio to the new soundtrack.

Very odd.

I’ve experienced the same thing. Perhaps this *Bug* will be fixed in a patch.
