Request for Vegas 8 improvement

Vegas really, really, REALLY needs a tally light on the timeline, alerting the editor to the color space being used, Computer RGB or Studio RGB. It would also help, alot, if there was a tally light indicating what mode the WFM and preview window each are in. The process of drilling down into each window to double check the settings, is tedious and time consuming. It would be so nice to see the settings in the main timeline window.

IMO it would be nice if Vegas were to simplify+handle all the color space conversions for you. e.g. JPEGs will decode to computer RGB levels. DV will decode to studio RGB levels (assuming you're using the Vegas codec).

You should get a setting to pick what color space/levels you want to work in- studio RGB or computer RGB. And Vegas will convert all your sources to that color space.

On export, it should be able to figure out/guess what color space the encoder wants to see. And then it should do the appropriate conversion.

Right now none of this happens... you have to manually wrangle all your levels. If you take a DV AVI and export a JPEG or Quicktime from it, the levels will be wrong by default.

2- Based on your project's working color space, it can set the video scopes appropriately (except for the 7.5 IRE setup setting, which is another separate issue; this setting kind of depends on whether you're in a PAL or NTSC country).

Love your idea, Glenn. As long as we're wishing, why not wish to automatically do everything.
Indeed!!
