Requesting Recommendations

I am in need of some updated information regarding a camera. Money is an issue as always but I am trying to get a camera that will allow low-light, night club type lighting where some stage lighting is available as fill in. Wtith budget being a large factor (under $2K) and not being afraid to purchase a used camera, I would so very much appreciate the educated opinions from the professionals in this group.

Of particular interest is the abiltiy to open the lense for low light shooting and not be forced to slow shutter speeds causing completely unacceptable video.

I am thinking along the lines of a Sony VX2000 Canon XL1 or XL1S. I like the interchangable lense capability of the Canon and would like to retain the ability to shoot in 24P mode. but are there certain know issues say with the XL1 that have been found to be really unacceptable.

Suggestions would be so very helpful, and as always, so very much appreciated. I am not interested in specifically an HD camera but more interested in high resolution and the ability to shoot in low light while maintaing reasonable shutter speeds.

Much thanks!!

I don't know if this is even a consideration, but I use the Panasonic AG-DVC30 and it works great in low light. It even has a nightmode setting that gets the image by using infrared technology. You can find them around $1500.00

VX-2100 / Sony PD-170 are widely regarded as having the best low-light performance. My 4-year old PD-150's great in low light, and I understand the PD-170's even better. The good news is that, like all standard-definition DV cameras, good quality used models can be had for a song ($1500-1800) on E-bay and the like.

Low-light shooting suffers somewhat in the newer HDV cameras, as you are trading sensitivity for resolution.

I would say the Sony's Brian has mentioned are the ones you want.
