Resizing the Video Preview window

VMP wrote on 7/24/2004, 9:09 AM
Hi,
I work with PAL DV (720x450; 25,000 fps).

Till 360x225 I can resize the window in various formats, but when I pull it out more it jups to the project size, 720x450.
So I cant set the window between 360x225 and 720x450.
I find 360x225 too small, and 720x450 too big.

Any tips to get the preview size between 360x225 - 720x450 ??

Thanks

I don't know if you can do it. It appears to me it's only scaling full/half/quarter with no interpolation of sizes in between. This might be for performance reasons, or it might be because the preview would not necesarily be representative of the final product if scaled through interpolation. I haven't seen anyway to smoothly scale the preview window, but the sizes are okay for me.

Can you scale above 360x full/half/quarter ?

I miss lots of details while editing at 360x size.
And at full project size the playback rate is jerky.

Thanks,

How fast is your computer? Have you defragged lately? Are you using AVI files? MPEG files will sometimes cause jerky playback in preview on slower computers.

Wobblyboy,
On the other hand, AVI will sometimes cause problems with playback on systems with weak hard disk performance... I have issues with performance when working from a USB drive with DV-AVIs. I have a decent computer, so MPEGs would probably play back better. I know Windows Media Player, for example, does better with MPEGs than AVIs.

Of course, regardless of preview, I'm not going to work from a lossy format like MPEG for source. That's what pre-rendered preview and DRAM preview are for. :)

Intel Pentium 4, 2.0 gig
1024 RAM DDR
WD HD 120 x 3 - 7200 RPM, 8mb cach.
System is ok.
I work with PAL DV(AVI). and sometimes with 8 layers of it with FX, so even if I
have a super system it would still run jerky.
And even with my 19 inch TFT, I find previewing the project in full project size not necessary. It also hides the audio video tracks more.
I would only like to know if it is possible to to preview between 360x225 - 720x450 .

Thanks.

PAL is 720x576, you might have a preset problem
VMP wrote on 7/24/2004, 3:46 PM
Well that preset I have made my self.
(Custom preset = 720x450, to chop of the top & bottem black borders of 16:9 widescreen while editing there is nothing to see there anyway..)

Even if I switch to
PAL Standard (720x576; 25,000 fps)

There is no preview window size between 360x288 - 720x576.
