Retainig Event Effects during multi-camera editing in Vegas 18 pro

Enabling the multi-camera function in Vegas Pro18 causes the elimination of all applied effects/filters/corrections when the tracks are combined into a single layer prior to making the cuts. Is there a way to keep applied effects when the multi-camera feature is applied? I would like to color correct the entire video from each camera before enabling the multi-camera function. It would be helpful to be able to do the correction in a 3 camera wedding shoot, for example, before the clips are cut up into little pieces.

You could apply the color correction in the Media bin and it will be retained, but if you apply it to an event, it will be removed during multcam edit.

Sure, right click on the Media in the bin and select MEDIA FX from the dropdown.

Sorry to be a nag. Here's a screen shot of how I'm trying to apply an effect to a clip in the media bin. I don't notice any changes when I adjust the settings in the effect window. I did right click on the media and select media fx as you explained. What am I doing wrong?

Are we looking at the trimmer window or the program window? It will show up on the program window normally. IF this is an EFFECT WINDOW, i don't have the version so I don't know what that shows.

The window that you call the 'effect window' does not in fact display any effects added to an event - that window is the Trimmer window. You need the Preview window to display VFX added to an event. But AFAIK, the event needs to be on the timeline in order for the event and its VFX to be displayed in the Preview window.

Perhaps someone else might have another take on this.

@Dexcon I agree. It looks like the trimmer window. And it does need to be on the timeline to show up in the program window.

Thanks everyone for pointing me in the right direction. I did get it to work. In order apply and retain effects/filters to a clip in the media bin without losing the effects when enabling multi-camera you can right click on the media in the bin, select and apply any media fx. You will see the result of the fx if the media is also on the timeline and showing as well in the trimmer window. The fx are retained during multi-camera editing. The event fx indicator on the clip on the timeline does not turn green when the fx is applied this way, but the fx shows on the clip in the trimmer.

I'll just mention, that in the recent push survey, I made the feature request for event-level FX in Multicam.

If you use a 3rd party multi-cam tool (such as Excalibur), you can add the effects at the event level and they will stay.

I'll just mention, that in the recent push survey, I made the feature request for event-level FX in Multicam.

Multicam combines several videos into one event (as takes), so it's impossible to retain event effects (use media effects). This is how it works... I believe this will never be implemented in the current multicam module.

You can display Media FX icon although it is quite small
