reversing a clip

can some one give me a suggestion on trimming a clip when I have reversed it (using the velocity envelope set at-100)
If I try to trim the event in the timeline at the left edge of the clip it shifts the whole loop so the part of the beginning of the orig clip(or the end of the reversed clip depending on how you look at it) plays then the clips starts over.
as an example lets say the clip shows frames 1-2-3-4 now I reverse it 4-3-2-1 if I trim the left side say one frame it will now play 1-4-3-2
when actually what i'm looking to do is trim it to 3-2-1
I did it before but I dont remember how, if you turn off the loop in the event properties its a freeze frame so thats not it.
what am I doing wrong or forgot? it's gotta be something simple I'm not doing

Before reversing it, trim it to start at the end point where you want it to start, so that you see 3-4-1-2 (actually the end of 3 so you will probably see 4-1-2-3), then apply the reverse envelope. It will now start at the end of 3 and move backwards from there.

thanks to all the forum users...most of my questions are answered in these post's or your great websites. btw I uploaded a quick file to yours, chienworks, I'm realitivly new at this and am looking for feedback/critisism etc. Is that the best way for you guys to look at them?
