Yes, prerendering can be done a couple of ways -- to file or RAM.

Which one gives me a better viewing? File or RAM?

Thanks,
Mary

I have prerendered and it seems like that didn't do anything for the performance.

Sounds like you did not "Match Media Properties" in your Project.
It is a specific procedure; do a search.

I have a similar problem. In my case, the preview window tends to skip to "preview half" even though I specify preview=full/best. I reset to full, and soon it switches to half again. I always "Match Media Properties" when I create a session. Is this a preference setting issue? Vid card not keeping up issue? (VMS10, Win 7 64 Pro, i7-930, 12GB ram.) Thanks !!!

EGS,
You question is entirely unrelated to the thread.
You need to uncheck some preview preferences.
Start a new thread if you need specifics.

Ok, I did what you said but it still lags. I'm stumped. (wouldn't take much to stump me)

Any other suggestions??

Mluebc, even if you hate the Cubs...have you specified the type of computer you're using on these forums, yet.

Processor type, operating system, RAM on board?

I think I saw them, but I'm unsure.

Intel. Windows 7. Ram on board 4 gigs.

Intel's been making processors for over 30 years. Can you be more specific?

Is it a Pentium, a dual-core or a quad-core processor? How fast is it?

Is your Windows 7 installation 32-bit or 64-bit?

We really do need details in order to help you.
mluebc wrote on 11/27/2012, 10:07 AM
Windows: 7 home premium
Processor: Intel(r)Pentium(r)CPU - p6100 @ 2.00 GHz
RAM: 4.00GB
External hard drive - 2 terabyte
System type: 64 bit operating system.

I hope this helps. Sorry not my area of expertise.

Thanks,
Mary

A Pentium running Windows 7 may be a bit underpowered for editing anything but miniDV. Especially high-def video and non-standard video like MP4s from a phone. What is the source of your video and what format and resolution is it?

Also, the throughput to a USB-connected external drive might also be a bit challenged on a Pentium. If that external is where you're storing your media and/or project files, that also could account for your poor performance.

The external hard drive is hard wired. I took a chance and burned a DVD and it is fine.
I believe the review window may not be able to keep up regardless
As long as the end result is OK. I`m good. Thanks for your help.
