Ripple Editing

Hi

I'm very new to Vegas, so bear with me.
I love this program, but there's a fundamental thing that I do (used to do..) in Premiere that I can't replicate here.
If I want to shorten a clip on the Premiere timeline, I just drag its right-hand edge to the left. All subsequent clips then move left pro rata to close up the gap.
No matter what I do in Vegas the gap remains?

Any ideas?

-Pete

(I can also see a split-screen view of the clip being shortened and its right-hand neighbour in Premiere. Is that possible in Vegas?)

Pete,

Select the region you wish to "delete" by entering in and out points (use the I and O keys),and make sure Ripple Edits is enabled. Press the Delete key, and you should get the results you're looking for.

I see...
Well, that starts to shed some light. (The hole in the timeline was my next question!)

The look and feel, the philosophy, of VV is certainly different. But I have never been impressed by Premiere. This [VV] is the way I have always felt video editing should be done.

Thanks for the tips.

(I'd like to have worked through the tutorial, but because my copy is a download I don't have the files. Do you know if they too can be downloaded?)

Phew!

(I'm using broad-band, but even then I think it'll have to go and lie down in a darkened room).

Thank you very much
