Ripple hotkey changning function???

Marre wrote on 8/15/2025, 2:59 AM

I use ripple effect to close the gap between the marked clip and the next one. its works but after some editing it changes and starts leaving a small gap instead. it still moves the other clip closer but not entirely. Why is this?
First image "gap".
Second image "closes gap" (works)
Third image "closes gap but leaves a small gap.

see the image. i also show the keybind.

@Marre Check that you have quantize to frames on.

@Marre @Gid

Turn on Show Unquantized Event Edges to see the damage that was done when you closed gaps without Enable Quantize to Frames turned on.

Look for red vertical lines at the cut points.

Quantize to frames is more likely to cause gaps, isn't it? If a clip does not end on a frame boundary, the following clip would ripple to the frame boundary after its predecessor, leaving a gap of less than one frame.

Possibly yes, "If a clip does not end on a frame boundary." Disparate frames rates can be a problem, too. Best to find them and fix them using Show Unquantized Event Edges.

Leave QUANTIZE to frames on ALWAYS! There is never a reason to turn it off. All video has to start and end on a frame boundary.

I agree with the exception of turning it off to slip audio on other than a video frame boundary.

Gid wrote on 8/15/2025, 2:54 PM

@john_dennis  Audio will slip to a non frame boundary with Quantize On. I do it all the time because my GoPro is always out of sync & I never turn Quantize Off.

PS. I ungroup the audio from the video.

As @Gid said. Vegas allows audio only to move by samples, so no need to turn quantize off. I am not sure why this is even an option, other than maybe it is a holdover from the early days when they switched from an Audio DAW to a Video NLE.

@Gid @DMT3

True. I verified at least back to Vegas Pro 13.
