Rogue Grouping

SMSv12 - I needed to add a VoiceOver, created a Track, named it and included a "Volume" line.
The VO came from a (dot) WAV file recorded elsewhere, using a digital recorder, with any peaks softened in SoundForge Studio.
When played, it's fine, within the limitations of the Edit.
However, if I want to Split the VO ( so it aligns with the action ), when I Select I find other clips on other tracks are selected.
I choose Group, Remove-From and then it doesn't select the other pieces ( which Is what I'd expect in the first place ).
However, if I split the VO track again . . . . the last piece has now lost the "Remove from Group" attribute . . . . so I have t perform this again . . . .
It's just slightly annoying . . . but Why does this happen in the first place?
The new track shouldn't be linked to anything else . . . . I made it the lowest Track, if that's any help.
It's really worrying, when concentrating on the last tracks ( by Track enlarging ), since I wouldn't notice the rogue grouping which is creating black-holes whenever the VO is moved . . . . Fortunately I spotted this and could "Go-Back" but I wonder why this is occurring - I've not noticed it before . . . .

A few days later, I tried adding a "better" VO using another "Better VO" Track . . . and this behaved like the previous one. So this was a freshly booted PC ( Win7 32b ) and a new SMS. [ although the same old (dot)vf file ].

It does seem like incorrect behavior. A good workaround might be to enable the "ignore event grouping" just above the timeline while you're doing your VO edit.

Thanks . . .
+ I've now found it, = top of screen Icons & "Control Shift U"
- should work whilst "set" - trouble is that I'm trying to ignore using Icons, as they remove significant part of screen / display area - and *Usually" I only use two:
"Import Media" and
"Auto Ripple"
Now I need the Third as well.
REPORT BACK
Sadly it makes no difference - it's as though that Icon wasn't lit.....v. odd.

I realise there are two strips of Icons . . . the Lower one includes Import Media . .
& I still have the Upper Strip showing.

EDIT:
I should have mentioned this rogue-effect occurs when I hold Shift. The reason I do this -it was in a TUT a while back and it works.....Move cursor to cutting point, Shift and mouse-click the Cursor remains fixed . . . then S=Split and the Event is now cut. . . . I'm finding the use of the Shift button creates this "Rogue Selection" of the other Events - - I didn't realise this when posted, as it's so automatic.

BTW is there a "Find Groups" option that arranges the Timeline so I can see all ( the different, separately ) Groups?
If my term "Rogue Grouping" includes Groups I've made and forgotten ( but not in the case originally described ) - it might be useful for the clip I'm working-on (= the last one selected, I think), to have a large Red + sign added, so alerting to a potential grave danger. If two other events are selected, then there should be a double ( ++ ) alert.

The Shift Click works the same in Vegas as it does it Window. Any event that is selected will remain Selected when you Shift Click on another event. Now you have two events selected.

For the purpose of positioning the Cursor and selecting without moving you would use CTRL click. At least that is what I do.
