Running HDV Out Firewire From NLE to View on TV

Is this possible? With Vegas Platinum there's a toggle above the preview monitor for running out firewire to your cam, and assumedly from your cam to your TV so you can see your edits on a TV screen. Unfortunately, Vegas seems to only output regular 4x3 SD-DV through firewire. Thus, my 16x9 HDV footage is squished together in a small 4x3 DV frame.

Also, while I can see the above mentioned DV output on my cam, I'm running an HDMI cord from my cam to my HDTV, and there's no signal getting through to the TV. That is, I monitor my shots from the cam to the TV through HDMI just fine when recording on the cam, but when running from my computer NLE to my cam, and then from the cam to the TV doesn't seem to work via HDMI. Is this typical?

So, is there a way to make Vegas output HDV instead of DV from the NLE to my cam during editing? And is there a way to then take that footage to my TV? Is it the HDMI cord that's holding me up? Or is it just something with Vegas outputting that SD-DV signal that's responsible?

I'm using a Sony V1U, and nearly always record in 24A.

Unfortunately, VMS only supports DV output to an external monitor. What make/model cam do you have? What does the manual say about its passthru capabilities? My guess is that it only supports analog output (RCA cables).

While you may be able to play video from your cam to TV via HDMI, it just can't passthru the video from the PC to TV via HDMI.

Sorry, I must have been editing my message at the same time you were replying. Anyway, I editing it to say I was using a V1U and all my footage is generally 24A. The manual isn't very specific about exactly what can be done via HDMI.

I recently decided to try Vegas Platinum after having used a pricey piece of software from a competitor for many years, so I'm new to it. I also just made the jump to HD with this cam.

After reading through the help files more, it appears you can only go out firewire as DV rather than HDV. I'm a little surprised at this since HDV has been around for about 5 years now. Apparently I need to buy a second video card in order to monitor my HDV timeline footage on my new HDTV, no?

do a "preview hdtv" search on the Vegas Pro Video forum for more than the last six months for threads on the topic.

I don't do HDV so I can't tell you if any of that will work with VMS.
