I get good slow motion in Vegas by overcranking my video:

1. Shoot 720p60
2. Put footage on 720p24 timeline.
3. Set clips playback rate to .4 (i.e., 24/60).

This produces nice frame accurate 40% slowmotion - no interpolated frames. But I only get 40%. For most of my work that is ok.

Vimeo example.

TeeTime,

Anyone with the UserName "TeeTime" might be interested in the following SloMo. It was shot on a Pocket Camera (a Canon SD960 - 720p). SloMo was entirely in Vegas (as a I recall, I used a cntl-drag to the maximum - then slowed it further with a Velocity envelope.) It was rendered to a .wmv, 'cuz .wmv's seem to play more smoothly than .mp4's in Silverlight.

VanLazarus,

I know that the best way to get good slowmo is to raise the framerate or to shoot with overcranking. But sometimes, when it's edit time, you have to deal with footage which wasn't shot with this in mind. I already get decent results using only Vegas but if I want to slow under 45%, depending on the scene and the footage, the result may vary from acceptable to horrible.

John showed us a way to get really better slowmo with some given footage and I think, in my case (amateur), it's worth to have a try with MVtools.

John,

Your help is very much appreciated. No need for me to install FFTW lib. After a full work day, I think I wasn't in good shape to discover AviSynth. Today all works as expected :-)

Now, it's time for tweaking and learning.

Thanks to all gurus who make this forum a very very valuable source of information.
