Satish? - DebugMode Frameserver - Strange Error Message

All,

So I finally got Frameserver downloaded and setup. My plan is to take a try at framserving a small project from Vegas 5.0b to Procoder Express.

I have followed the instructions carefully but when I finally choose File-Render As->Debugmode Frameserver .avi-> Give a filename and click Save...I get:

"Unable to create signpost AVI file. Please close any applications that may be using this file and try again."

I only have Vegas open. Running Vegas 5.0b with FS v2.0. Weird thing is the render dialog is up in the background grinding away...

What am I doing wrong?

Also - how do I obtain "special" access to the FrameServer forum page on your site? I am sure I could have found the answer there but I cannot access it.

This is the first time i hear such an issue so i dont have any answers offhand. Run task manager and see if no other apps (like windows media player etc..) are running which may use the signpost AVI (which you had created earlier, may be).

Also check if there exists a file with the same name which is readonly.

What is the error you get while trying to reach the FS forum page? I tried out just now and things seem fine..

I can see the forum now....so that's cool.

Regarding the error - I will check my background tasks tonight when I am in studio. I thought about the filename and made sure I had a unique one.

I will update here with what I find.

You don't happen to have an explorer window open and focused on the directory where you are creating the signpost AVI file, and have the view in thumbnail mode, do you?

Nope. Only Vegas open (that I can see). Too bad I can't post a screencap up here...however - it's is definitely a error dialog from Frameserver...

Maybe Satish can do a code scan to see where this error pops up within the program and why....

I get the same error tried everything suggested, gave up and using version 1.6 again.

@CuzinB and ghosty6: Do you enable the "write pcm audio" option or serve both audio and video?

The error pops up only if the file already exists and cannot be deleted, or if it cannot be overwritten. More puzzling is the fact that ghosty6 is able to use v1.6 and not v2.0..

My error occurs with or without "write pcm audio" checked. And the file definitely does not exist prior to writing.

I should also mention that for this test - I am simply highlighting a small section of a existing 10 minute project and then choosing Render AS. I do have the "Render only loop area" checked. I am giving the new .avi a real weird name to ensure uniqueness but the problem still exists.

No background processes are running that could interfere with this.

Could this have anything to do with an existing .avi somewhere else on the box with the same name? I am trying to render to a completely different folder with a completely different name. Does Frameserver write out a temp file someplace else like to a scratch area or something?

No temp files are used in the process.. the only way i could figure out the problem is to do a remote debugging with your PC. Send me an email, we could carry on there..

It must have a conflict somewhere, because I just loaded an earlier image of my partition and it is fine, however if I use my current setup it will not work.

I think more and more people will get this message as time goes on.

I have not been able to pinpoint the problem, however my system is a fairly normal setup apart from Windows Media player 10 (beta) hmmm
