I just ran a short test (far from conclusive) on a system on which I have not used Vegas for months. I opened Vegas and started a new project. "Save" or "Save as" remembered the last folder of the last project I had worked on -- It did not default to My Documents. But I seem to remember this happening at times too.

I'm in the dark how Vegas tracks the last folder saved to -- or if this is a function of windows? I could not find a Vegas config or .ini file in the program folders except possibly SfHandle.fnt which seems to update with each Vegas session. That file is encoded and can't be read as plain text.

I'd be curious if anyone knows how the "default" save folder gets stored.
One thing is sure, if it keeps changing then there is a control file somewhere that gets written each session.

I believe it's in the "hidden" internal menu in the PREFERENCES button. Access is by holding down Cntr/Shft and then click on preferences. About 2/3 rds of the way down you'll see a tab labelled "Record to". Change the setting to the path/folder of your choice

Well I don't think that's it but I didn't get a chance to check. I'd moved the veg file in the last 15 minutes and now I can open it and chose "save As" and it offers me the same folder that the original is in. Just as it should.

Go figure.

Thanks for the help!

On the "hidden" menu very near the top .. "Last Open Project" .. this contains the path to the last saved project. YOu may be right Bill that the "default" path is in the value for the "Record Path" about 2/3 then way down --- but I still don't get why the "default" comes up sometimes as it did for Rob --

One thing you forgot. Use Ctrl + Shift when you click on "preferences" to get the hidden menu on the Internal tab. The Internal tab does not appear unless you use Ctrl+Shift when clicking on preferences. There's about 1 million things to change on this hidden menu. Take care.

Don't mean to be nitpicky but just "shift" will do the trick.
