Save Proj w/ Media=Error!

I rarely, if ever have any problems with Vegas (7), but this one has me stumped; also, a forum search did not yield an answer...

When saving a Vegas 7 project with (untrimmed) media, I persistently get the error message:

"An error occurred while saving the project file - The file name is not valid."

My project file name is "_CommLinePromo-Root.veg"

Changing the filename to MyProject01.veg did not help.

then...

Saving with no media works OK (original filename).
Saving with TRIMMED (2 sec) media works OK (original filename).

I would like to save the project file with the *whole* relevant media files. It won't work.

Any idea why this may be happening?

Thanks!

(Note: I see that nested veg files are *still* not saved with the corresponding media. I thought this was fixed; guess not.)

Yeah. You found another bug.

If "Saving with no media works OK ", just call it another bug and save it that way. That's the workaround. I don't think that any program that is highly complex, as is Vegas, is free of bugs.

If you want to use a program that is genuinely "buggy", try Adobe Encore.

Ya' know, I actually do use it (Encore) with little trouble. Version 1.0 was hugely buggy; no question; worst I've ever seen. The latest version, however, runs very smoothly for me.

Thanks.

Possibly one of the media files that you're saving is bad - not the veg file. (Ot it could be trying to save a non-existent file). Try clicking on the project cleanup before saving.

Do you mean 2.0? I can't use it because I don't have the right CPU (only a Pentium 3@1 gig.) I know 1.5 is light-years better than 1.0. Care to make any more comments on 2.0 vs 1.5?

Good idea, but I already tried it to no avail. Seems to only "not work" when I save media with the project WITHOUT the trim option checked. I do a trim + a whole 30 second head/tail, then it saves fine, including the media. Some of the media files in question are way less than 30 seconds; saves the whole thing without problem. Weird, obviously a bug. Thanks though.

Yes.

>>I don't have the right CPU (only a Pentium 3@1 gig.)

The issue is not much the processor (it is important though), but the SSE2 cpu instruction seems to be the main thing. I am running an AMD64 3500+. The 64 bit processors have the SSE2 instruction set like the Intel P4 and up do.

Definitely. 1.5 was how 1.0 should have been.

I could probably talk awhile.... :) 2.0 is terrific; a rather substantial upgrade in my opinion. It was also the 1st version with the CPU issue. If you have the CPU, then great, but I can totally understand folks getting very peeved. It works well, makes great DVD's, plus a lot more. Terrific program.
