What version of VF do you have?

VF 2.0C is the latest version which uses the MainConcept MPEG-1 encoder. Previous versions used Ligos which is not available anymore. This could explain why it wants to register you each time. If you have purchased ver 2.0 and are using the original packaged CD, most likely you do not have VF 2.0C. You can download the update for free from the Updates page, install it over the old version (You won't lose anything), make the movie as MPEG-1, register for the new MainConcept encoder and you should be in business. If you have VF 1.0x, you will need to purchase the upgrade to VF 2.0 for $30. You might want to concider purchasing Vegas Video 3.0 for $200 which is an exceptional bargain. I haven't done so yet because I'm too cheap, but from what I have read about it in the Forums I am itching to upgrade.
