save V7 projects to V9 and settings

I just upgraded to V9 from V7. I think I even have some V4 projects (before Sony took over). Would there be any advantage to open my projects that were saved in earlier version and then save them as V9 projects? I'm concerned with compatibility issues and would like to be able to open past projects if I need to, even with future upgrades.

Another question: Vegas has a default pixel format setting of 8-bit (in Properties) with options for 32-bit video levels or 32-bit full range. Could you explain what the options would be for and should I just leave it at 8-bit for most projects? I always change the render and resample qualities to best.
Vegas defaults to MS Sound Mapper for the Audio Device in Preferences. I do have an Auzentech Prelude sound card. Should I change it to Auzentech ASIO or does Vegas work better with the default MS Sound Mapper?

Generally there's no problem opening old .veg files in newer versions of Vegas. I can't see any advantage in doing so until/unless you need to . When the time comes open it and work on it. It won't make any difference whether it has problems now or if you try to open it earlier and it has problems then.

One thing to be aware of is that once you save a .veg file in a newer version it will never again open in an older version. For this reason you should always make copies of your .veg files before opening them. That way if you decide you need to work on it in an older version you still have a safe copy from that version.
