It's not a render template after you've set up the project properties either, except in very limited cases such as AVI / uncompressed / maintain project settings.
Maybe this should be a new feature : export project settings to render template. However, considering that templates are unique to each combination of output type and codec, you'd have to specify which render type you're assigning it to. And, at the moment, that's most easily done by going to render, choosing the output format, and creating a new template there.
The only thing missing from that step is a nifty new little button one can click to match the current default template settings to match the project.
Yes, I understand the "issues" around it not happening thus far. But I would have thought that having an option to jump through the hoops of selecting/matching the correct Project settings for the Project from the Media, and that being saved, that then it would be a philosophical no-brainer for it then to be the Template for Rendering out; Pre-Rends; Render to new track, etc etc?
Along the lines of: "You've asked me to match the project to the Media - now give that same Template to render out too!" Yes, and all things being equal, with the need for me to fill out the blanks when needed too.
Rarely does my project and render setting match. What you're suggestion works OK with DV, it's not such a good idea with HD.
Also there's a couple of project settings that cannot be determined by the media and although they influence the outcome when rendering they're not in the render settings. Whole things is a bit of a mess and that should be the first thing to get sorted.
Thing is the project settings determine how Vegas runs the pipeline and the render settings determine what happens to the output of the pipeline.
I never render to a new track but that's a tricky one surely. The big question would be which codec do you want Vegas to use. That's not determined by matching media in the project settings. Really all that can be carried over from the project settings into the render settings is the frame size.
i've found that many project settings I use are incompatible with certain codec's. :( But it would be a nice option. Doesn't "render to new track" do this by default? IE picks the closest template to your project settings?
