You can't save them as a project other than as .vf, however you can render them into MPEG-1, MPEG-2, or .AVI to use in other programs.

Choose Make Movie and then Save to Disk and save your file as a DV-NTSC AVI. (Or DV-PAL if you're in Europe.)

This is the most flexible format to save your movie in -- it's easily editable and you can even port it back out to your camera with no loss of quality.
