saving markers and regions

before i start this annoying project again, i want to make sure that my work was in fact lost, and is not just sitting somewhere that i can't figure out how to accesst

I had the "automatically save merker and regions with media file" checked as i saved my project, which only consisted of marked raw footage; no timeline work. now when i open the file, vegas is completely empty. is my data somehow lost? or is there some special way to open it that i am not doing?

"automatically save merker and regions with media file"

I get confused on this, but I think this affects rendering, because the "media file" is the AVI or MPEG file that you create, whereas the project file is the VEG file. If you rendered the project with this checked, the markers would be embedded and could be read when the media file is brought back into Vegas.

In the trimmer, I believe you have to manually press the disk icon or press ‘S’ to Save Markers and Regions. If you go into the Exporer view and right click on your media, and select Open in Trimmer you should see your regions and markers. If you don’t, they’re lost. Next time remember to save them manually.

that's weird, it says, "an error occurred while saving one or more files. the system is low on memory. you may be able to reduce memory usage by closing other applications."

i find this strange considering that i have 640 mb of ram, and it still won't work even after i close everything else down. is this a common problem with vegas?

When you re-open your project (I assume you saved it as a *.veg rather than EDL Text file) did you try right clicking on the original media clip in the Explorer window and select “Open in Trimmer”? This should bring things back to where you left off, with markers in place in the Trimmer.

From reading your other post on 'subclipping' it sounds like you may not be aware that you can edit a long clip directly on the timeline, cutting it into ‘subclips’ by using the split (S key) function; you can drag the edges at the split forward or backward to adjust the length of the ‘subclip’ at any time. You can set markers and regions on the timeline. In other words, using the Trimmer is optional, and some folks never use it.

Not sure what’s going on with your memory error. Do you also have adequate disk space?
