saving subclips?

i have a long form doco, at present around 12 hours of rushes, which i'd like to start culling now. this is my first long form with vegas 5, i normally work with an edit station 7, which though clunky, is a really killer at this sort of thing:

i want to create assorted bins (no problem), into which i will put the takes i want as 'subclips' from the trimmer.

so, having taken x number of clips as 'subclips', how do i clear the hd's of unwanted material? is it as simple as saying - save subclips - and deleting the rest - if so, how do i go about that?

Vegas is a non-destructive NLE--so lets say you have a long take and you want to keep a couple of seconds of it. The only way to accomplish this is to render the section of the clip and thus create a new file that is distinct from the original. The render to time line will accomplish this.

I usually use batch capture, and log the files on the tape, for just this reason.

Otherwise, try "save as" with the "save trimmed media files with project" box checked. I believe this will work even if you just have clips in the Media Pool, but not on the timeline.

just as i thought....

could you please expand on your save as / save trimmed media files with project - since i'd rather not put all my clips in one basket, oops, sorry, timeline...

I'm not sure if Vegas 6 is different but in Vegas 5 if you try to "save as" and check "copy and trim media with project". It will misread all subclips on the timeline and bascially screw up you entire edit where subclips are concerned. This is a real drawback to me because I like to archive projects this way so it forces me to not use subclips.

Anyone know if this was fixed in V6?

Unfortunately, "save as / save trimmed media files with project" breaks the audio out into seperate wav64 files. It's not ideal.

Veggie toolkit has a batch capture tool that (I think) can capture based on subclips and timeline events. You might want to go find a copy at
this site.
