Saving track Settings

I have been using Cubase for a long time. I switched to Vegas recently. When I used Cubase and recorded a band doing several songs that were similar, I would save all the mixer settings and start out with those settings on the new song. This would save me a lot of time as I didn't have to redo settings for Drums instrunments etc. Is there a way I can do this in Vegas?

Just open a new file, set up all the tracks and settings the way you want, then save it as something like "bandTemplate.veg" or something like that.

Then just open that everytime you start a new project and do a "save as" with the song name.

A little add to H2000's method.

Mark the 'bandTemplate.veg" file as read only. That way you wont accidentally overwrite the template. Vegas will just yell at you that it can't write to the file as a "reminder" to save as.

Brilliant! Wish I had known that read only trick! I've done just that - overwritten my template.

Any possibility of working "save as template" in a menu somewhere?

Also what I've done before -

After the first record take and you want to move on to a new song - SAVE THE PROJECT then delete all the events and rename the file _whatevertemplate_whatever (actually I use "_empty") Might save a bit of time while the clocks running.

I set up a template before I start recording. I use that template for recording all the songs. After recording I save each song. I then bring the songs in one by one for mixing. In order to get a template with all mixer settings after I have mixed a song, added effects etc., I would have to remove events from the tracks, save as a template and then import the tracks for the new song in one by one. This is time consuming and creates possible sync problems. In Cubase I could simple mix the first song. Save the mixer settings. Open the new recorded song and apply selected saved mixer settings. It would be great if I could do this in Vegas. I could possibly stop after recording the first song and do the mixing and editing and use that template for furthur recording. Usually I cannot because I will often record all the songs in a session before starting to mix and edit.
