.scc captions only displaying 1 line at a time

When I capture a captioned file with Vegas Pro 11 I can see captions being displayed 2 to 3 lines at a time. The resultant .scc file however has saved the captions to display 1 line at a time. From the captured file I tried extracting the captions to a YouTube format and they also came out 1 line at a time.
i.e.
00:00:16,250 --> 00:00:17,184
I THINK WE CAN ALL AGREE

14
00:00:17,184 --> 00:00:17,985
THERE'S A LOT OF MUD FLYING

15
00:00:17,985 --> 00:00:19,486
THIS ELECTION SEASON.

Those 3 lines should be displaying on the screen at the same time the same way I saw them when I first captured the video.. So is this a bug or is there a setting I need to set in Vegas Pro 11?

How did you capture the CC file?

I am using a Blackmagicdesign Ultrastudio SDI. In Vegas Pro 11 the video format is HD 1080i-60i. Encoding is 10-bit YUV AVI. Audio and video is captured from our Grass Valley K2 server.After I capture the video, I can bring it back into Vegas Pro 11 and see the captions formatted correctly as they were originally broadcast. The .scc is created automatically when you first capture the stream and apparently does not format the captions correctly. I get the same result if I try extracting the captions in .srt YouTube format - only one line of captions appears at a time.

It would make sense that it wouldn't change if the import is incorrect.

But I have capturd cc from Standard definition, with rollups and everything and the scc file has retained that.

Could it be the Grass Valley server is changing it? I am not familiar with its workings.

You can use a program called CCEXTRACTOR to extract the cc from the original file, before Vegas gets hold of it, and make sure it is being stored correctly.

There is another poster here very familiar with the CC workings of Vegas and hopefully he will chime in.

I'll try to help...need to narrow down the problem.

After you have just captured the video, does the CC display correctly on playback in Vegas?

If yes, then save the project, close Vegas, then re-open and verify the CC.

Than if that all checks out...we need to look at the CC file Vegas is creating.

Also, why are you "extracting" the CC - for some other use?

Yes, I can re-open the avi file in Vegas pro and the captions appear like they should, black background and 2 to 3 lines appearing as when they were broadcast.
We post our videos to the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) "COVE" system. Their system can accept the .scc file that Vegas Pro creates directly. You can see the results of the .scc file from Vegas Pro here:
http://watch.cetconnect.org/video/2196625057/

Here's a sample of the YouTube caption output:
42 00:00:51:05 00:00:52:92 WITH HIM BEING A WORLD
43 00:00:52:92 00:00:54:75 TRAVELER WITH HIS JOB
44 00:00:54:75 00:00:56:18 WE BOTH DECIDED HE HAD
45 00:00:56:18 00:00:56:99 TO HAVE SOMETHING TO DO
46 00:00:56:99 00:01:04:09 AFTER HE RETIRED.
47 00:01:04:09 00:01:07:23 AND WE STARTED TO THINK
48 00:01:07:23 00:01:09:80 ABOUT WHAT IT IS THAT
49 00:01:09:80 00:01:11:00 WE WOULD LIKE TO DO.

There is no way we get 2 to 3 lines showing up.

First Option:

1. Delete or move the .scc file out of the folder your footage is in.
2. Bring you video file back onto the time line and Promote the CC
3. Then render the time line in a format that has CC embedded like mxf
4. Now you will have a new .scc to try out.

Second Option: (maybe the cetconnect.org system might not like your .scc file.)

1. If their system will except other CC formats give them a try.
I had to use .rt on a project so I would not have a garbled looking CC.

And last, check to see what CC channel/settings your Command Markers set are on. 608CC1 is what is the most common.

Oh,and one more thing... Right Clicking your command marker and select Edit to look at the CC "comment" line to check to see if their is a problem there.

Example of a two line CC (below) - for three lines you will need one more tab. I have never used more then two lines...maybe that could be part of the issue.

{RCL}{R14In00Wh}{TabOff1}of eating 9 to 11 servings of{R15In00Wh}{TabOff2}fruits and vegetables daily.{RCL}{EDM}{EOC

This is way easier over the phone...good luck
