scene detect

Does VideoFactory (or other software) recognize the time stamps that are in my AVI files and will it split my AVI files into scenes based on these time stamps? Will it split into scenes based on some other criteria (video or audio breaks)?

Maybe I'm using the wrong software. Please advise which software would be the best for me.

Here's what I want to do:

dump my video camera
spit the one hour files into scenes by time stamp (or other method)
possibly split some scenes
delete unwanted scenes
compile wanted scenes into one or two hour files (MPEG or MPEG2)
burn VCDs or DVDs

Everthing else is just fluff but menus/chapters may be nice, transitions, time stamp display, etc.

Thank you.

By default, VidCap will split the capture into separate files at each timestamp discontinuity, for example, when you pause recording and then start again. Each of these scenes will be stored in it's own .avi file. It won't split captures on any other criteria though. However, once you have the clips captured you can chop them up on the timeline any way you wish, rearrange them, add effects, transitions, titles, etc. You won't be able to burn DVDs with VideoFactory, but you can make VCDs or prepare MPEG-2 files to be burned with some other DVD authoring program.
