scene detection

Is there a way to turn off scene detection in MS? I end up with too many clips in the media pool. ( I'd rather have them in tape size - roughly one hour - chunks rather than have so many individual clips. It's easier to pull them into the timeline if they're not all separated into clips.) Karl, I don't have MS on this PC, but switching off scene detection is one of the options. Have you tried dragging and dropping from Windows Explorer? You can select all your clips in one go and drag them straight onto the timeline - you'll have much less work to do splitting out the bits you don't want. If you want a bit more sophistication take a look at this.

When you’re in the video capture program, go to Preferences and under the Capture tab uncheck Enable DV scene detection. That should give you one long AVI file per tape.
