Scenedetect in Vegas 4

aleycon wrote on 8/7/2003, 5:36 AM
I've got a problem with capture in Vegas 4. When I allow the scenedetection, several files are created, instead a source video is olny one clip (30 min. length). Length of output files is different. One file is about 1-n minute long and following contain only 1 frame, following contain again 1-n minute, etc. When I disallow the scenedetection, only one file is created.
Thanks
Aley

Are you working in PAL or NTSC?

I'm working in PAL.

I'm not sure what you mean by "1-n minute". Can you explain this a bit more? I assume you're describing a very short clip since it contains only one frame.

Other than that, it sounds like you're describing exactly what video capture is supposed to do. With scene detection on, each time the timecode from the DV tape changes, a new file is created for that clip. The lengths of thie files will represent the lengths of the scenes. Without scene detection the entire capture ends up in one file without breaks. This is the way it's supposed to work.

1-n minute files have length 1 minutes or 2 minutes, etc. Was created also files with length only 15 or 30 seconds. Those files are always followed by short file with olny 1 frame and size 278KB and then follow file with 1-n minute length.
For example:
3min->1frame->25sec->1frame->40sec->1frame->2min->....

As a PAL user make sure you haven't the "Min Clip Length" checked within Vid Cap Prefs - leave it empty. When "checked" shown to make a problem for us PAL users. Don't know why, hasn't been bugged out - I keep it unchecked.

PLease respond if you have had it checked, and now, when you uncheck it - yeah?

I've checked all capture option in the VidCap. In last time I've tested change those options, but with the same result.

Now, I've found a reason of my capture problem, that is cased by my Panasonic camcorder. I borrowed another Panasonic camcorder, and capture has been perfect.

Excellent - - but not excellent though. Repair costs on Pannie Cammie?

What model is Your Panasonic camcorder? I've got NV-DS27 and have the same problem with capturing. When I borrowed another camcorder the capturing went flawlessly. I had my camcorder serviced twice because of this, and every time they said there was nothing wrong with the camcorder, but your post proofs there was.
