screaming audio

I replaced some media in a project and now weirdly the audio has started screaming. The original file on my hard drive is still playing fine but whenever I try and re import it into Vegas, either in my current or a new projecr it is just shrieking weirdly. Any ideas?

Is the audio file by any chance on a USB drive? I had something similar on my laptop in the past, moving the audio file to the internal hard drive fixed it

no, its just on the hard drive of the computer. It plays fine there in Windows Media....but when i drag the mp3 into Vegas , the wave forms on the audio track on the timeline vanish, there's just a straight line, and this terrible shriek. Ive tried importing other mp3's into Vegas from different places. Some of them are working fine...some of them the same problem

Not all MP3's meet standards. If you can find an app that can convert, I would convert them to PCM audio which is a standard.
