Screanblast Acid 4.0 or Acid 4.0Pro

I see both at the local Best Buy, but I don't know which one I should get.
I'm a producer of local Cable spots, some long form, a few "personal" project (what-do-you-call-em? Independent Film?) and an Industrial or so.
Is there any reason to spend $130.00 for the Pro version?
Thanks for any advice. -mjr

If you're working with video you'll want the Pro version for it's one video track. Of course, ACID really only works with audio so if you want to do any video editing you'll want Vegas.

Actuatly, I have Screenblast and it allows you to do video scoring too (1 video track). I belive the difference biggest difference is that the screenblast acid liscence agrement says you can't use it for commercial use. If I knew that before i bought it i would of waited to order Acid Pro next year when I would have more $$$. I think it's stupid to say the non-pro version isn't for commercial use (Sony, you SHOULD change that!), and i don't know how htey would nail you if you did use it for commercial use.

Sorry. I should have added that to my original post. I have Vegas 4.0d.
I'm just looking to add decent soundtracks that fit the flavour that I'm looking for. So the pro version, I get a video track that I could directly edit to my project, right? That's important info. Thanks. -mjr

I believe that Screenblast products are not licensed for commercial work. That has been mentioned on this forum.

If you are going to sell your work, go for Acid Pro.

Guess that makes sence (in a materialistic and monitory-sort of way). Like an Accademic version, I suppose.
Thanks for the info. -mjr

Except the academic version of SoFo programs allowed you to make money with. :) And SoFo's Acid Music (which Screenblast replaced) allowed you to make money. And so did Video Factory (which was replace by screenblast movie maker).

:)

What the heck could this possibly mean? I understand saying that content like loops or samples are not licensed for commercial work, but what does it mean to have a program not licensed for commercial work? So I can make a movie with Vegas 4 but if I add a soundtrack from commercial loops that I made in Screenblast ACID, I can no longer sell my movie, not because of the musical content, but because I used ACID to assemble the loops. That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. Sony needs to have their heads examined. NONE of the competition have this restriction! There are quite a few professionals that use Pinnacle Studio to make a living doing wedding videos who are sick of Studio’s instability and I’ve told them to try Screenblast. I guess I need to post pack and tell them they can’t use Screenblast if they do commercial work. I guess Sony doesn’t like making money.

Well... I gotta go check the license on my word processor to make sure I didn’t just write a professional memo with a not for commercial work word processor. This is laughable; not to mention that it is technically unenforceable.

I almost bought Screenblast ACID because I was looking at ACID Music previously and thought I would wait for the new version. Thanks for saving me from wasting my money. I think Cakewalk Home Studio 2004 supports ACID Loops and has no such restriction. Perhaps I should look into that. Like I said, I guess Sony doesn’t care about making money.

I'm looking in to getting a refund on my Screenblast music right now. I'm going to buy Acid Pro 4 if I can afford it. Or at the least, I have access to a new copy of Acid 2.0, with no restrictions. I can use that if need be.

Actually, I just found Sonic Foundry Acid Pro 4.0 Bundle with Sound Forge Studio 6.0 and Classic 8Pack for $149 at MusiciansFriend.com. This sounds like a great deal!
