Screen Capture

Hello everyone.

I'm new. But really enjoying learning Vegas Movie Studio 17 Platinum.

Working my way through tutorials. I've come across Screen Capture. Whilst I'll never be good enough to teach I am trying to learn some of the intricacies. However I seem to have a problem.

When I start the capture screen dialog box, I am given the option of viewing the web cam and the generic pnp monitor screen. The pnp screen is black with a very small icon in the centre. I'm assuming it is the screen, but so small. A very small black area with a white dot in the upper left. However, on a few occasion the dialog box shows a broken image similar to and old tv that is trying to get an image.

If I record. I can get the webcam image and sound But the computer screen itself is not recorded. Anyone know what the problem is?

Sorry if I'm not technical enough in my description. Any advice would be welcome.

By the way, I'm feeling good about the programme. Made my first video. Pan and Crop is good isn't it?

Regards

Ross

The Screen Capture utility currently is not compatible with AMD gpus.

VEGASDerek

Thank you for the reply. Ah well! Didn't want to capture anything anyway. Don't want to go to the expense of changing my computer. Will carry on learning. 1/3 the way through a Udemy course.

I haven't tried using the VP screen utility yet, but recently had a need and came across a wonderful freeware utility called OBS Studio. So if you ever need something as a backup in the meantime, you may want to give that a try.

@Rednroll OBS is frequently recommended here. I assume it's the same one. There's a FAQ with recommended settings for the best results.

I know I said I wouldn't. But I did.

New computer.

For a fraction of the price of a comparable £700 laptop.

DELL i5 4th QUAD DESKTOP TOWER PC & 22' TFT COMPUTER SET 16GB WINDOWS 10 1TB HDD.

All for £189.

Not that I know how to use it yet. Screen capture is now an option for me. Onward and upward. Still enjoying myself.

Regards to all

Derek, I am also having this issue of a digital blizzard showing in the PnP Generic Monitor. My processor is a 3.20 gigahertz Intel Core i7-8700. I am not interested in having to use a different vendor for screen capture, inasmuch as Vegas Pro has screen capture in the program. For which I have paid a fair amount of money. Thoughts? Many thanks.

If you have an AMD GPU use the capture utility provided in the RADON software (drivers/setup for AMD GPU's). It is actually a full featured capture program. If you run two monitors (I do, one from my mother board (INTEL CPU/GPU) and a RX480), Vegas will capture from the monitor on the motherboard.

If you have more than 1 GPU there is possibility to use the Vegas Screencapture as a standalone for wich you can set the right GPU in your PC settings.

Thanks very much for the prompt responses. I also posted the issue in the Movie Studio forum since I had this issue with Movie Studio 17. j-v was kind enough to reply to that post. As I told him, I'm not going to tear my hair out getting something I paid for to work. I am guessing that if I DID get it to work properly, I most likely would be disappointed in it. All I can do is shake my head, because this is B.S. I'm out.

Does anyone know why this hasn't been addressed yet?
