You might try CamStudio. It freeware. http://camstudio.org/ You can record and save it to pretty much whatever codec you like. Should be no problem getting it into Vegas.

I don't do screen capture often. I use the free version of BB Flashback. Works well enough for my needs. There's better out there.

Hi Ken,

I can strongly recommend "Action" by Mirillis Ltd. Costs USD $30 and it's a really impressive capture software. I was put onto it by some wise colleague on this Forum and it works really well.

Beware of the hitchhikers with the innocent looking freeware. Some of them can cause a lot of grief. With donations being less and less many publishers will add whatever might pay the freight

I just came across a new one today. It's free and no unwanted bloatware. It's a small download (most of the work is done on their servers), just select the screen area to record and click on "record". When done, click on "finish" - it can't get more simple. Their server processes the video and starts playing it. Right-click and save the video to your local disk then you can open it in Vegas to take out the dead air and add narration.

I've used a few free screen capture and have also settled on the free Bluberry Flashback Express.

Mirillis Action looks very good for $30 bucks. The lowest price full version of Blueberry Flashback is $90 bucks.

Most screen capture software products are compatible with Vegas, but most need to be used in proper way.

What do you want to record? Presentations? Video conferences? Games?

Mirillis Action is really the BEST!
