Screenblast Movie Studio, Video Capture problem?

Hi, I have a Sony hi-8 digital camcorder, and i am using the sony digital 8 tapes to record my videos, but when i do the video capture through screenblast, the video quality is fuzzy and has a bunch of boxes. Almost as if it's pixallated (if that's even a word). Does anybody here have any ideas how i can fix it quick??? Thanks.
If so, can you email the answers to

Well, Hi-8 is analog, so you must be using some sort of converter to capture it to your computer.

Could it be that your analog capture device isn't compatible with MS? (And what is your capture device?)

Have you captured successfully using any other program?

well i really dont understand much of the technical stuff. i have the sony digital video camera recorder dcr-trv460 ntsc, digital 8 handycam and i was told that i could use it to record video. that's about all i know. i'm using the screenblast movie studio to get the video caputre through usb streaming. that's pretty much all i know about the camcorder itself

If you have a trv-460, you have a "Digital-8" camcorder, not "Hi-8".

I think your problem is that you are using a USB cable to transfer the video. I have the same camcorder, and if I remeber correctly, he manual states that using a USB cable to transfer the video will result in lower quality video. I will look at the manual when I get home.

I use a Firewire cable to transfer the video from my camera to the PC and the video looks great. Unfortunately, Sony only supplies a USB cable with this camera and you need to purchase a Firewire cable seperatly.

Do you have a Firewire port on your computer? If you need help finding out, let me know and I can show you what to look for.

Good luck-

i'm an idiot! sorry! is it the same port that's on the camcorder for the a/v thing? cause it looks like that. and its smaller than the usb cable end that goes into the d/v outlet.

It could be a 4-pin firewire port. If it is, it would look the same as the middle jack on the side of your camcorder (the one labled with an logo that looks like an "i" and the letters "dv" under it).

If that's the type of jack you have on your PC, you need a 4-pin to 4-pin firewire cable.

Here is an Amazon.com listing for that cable:

You can get one cheaper than that if you look around and it doesn't have to be Sony brand.
