[SCRIPT] Go to Event.

It almost seems like this should end up being an entire replacement for the Edit Details window. The main thing Edit Details needed was a Go To Event function.

I'd still like it if Sony added this to the Edit Details window. Just on principle, because it should always have been able to do this.

<time passes...>

First of all it's GREAT that you've written a tool that will go to a location on the timeline. It's loooong overdue and has always been a glaring omission on Madison's part. They should add the feature to the edit details window.

Of course that would take away the primary purpose of this script. Still, they won't get around to it while you're still on version 1 of the script.

What it looks like you've got is audio and video views of the Edit Details window. One advantage of this is that you can now have edit details showing just Markers while your seperate window shows events. (Similar to the request to have multiple floating bins so you can see more than one at a time -- Sony better get on that before Adobe locks it up in copyright.) Anyway, just having a second view window is a "feature".

What's missing from Edit Details? Obviously a goto event function. Also a search function (hint).

What does your Goto Event window lack? A field selector to let you choose what fields are shown, Checkbox input for the Boolean fields (wouldn't a Yes/No checkbox be more straightforward than right-clicking a record?), Cut and paste, a top-left "select all" button. Left-hand record selectors. Column headers that sort the column. A right-click context menu.

Basically, some of these are just conventional interface features (Right-click gives choices rather than doing just one thing, Double-click edits the field, although the point here is to go to the timecode being clicked on - conventionally it would be an option in a context menu.)

All thoughts for V2, accepting that Sony should use the GoTo Event feature in Vegas.

Meanwhile, some things for this version: When you "Go To Event" the timeline view should go there as well. Also, the time selection remains even if it's unchecked.

Yes Rob! I'm with you - but keep the EDV and have this option on the Project Media pane OR, for me, better would be the Media Manager!!

The problem with having a Go To Event feature in either of those is that the media could appear many times on the timeline. To make that work Sony would have to pop up a list of all the instances of the media and let you choose one to go to. This feature is more natural for the Edit Detail list or for things like Rosebud's tool. And of course there's no reason not to have the same function in multiple places.

BTW, I added more to that post...

Just some words to inform you I dropped the development of this script because my brother died few days ago.
I’ll go back to this forum as soon as possible, when my mind will be more in peace.

Rosebud, Sorry about your brother, I'm sure the forum members and SMS staff feel the same. Thanks for working on the project on your free time, you have been a real trooper adding and changing features as requested. I think this program could be modify to develop a network task render feature for people with a number of large machines.

Hope your parents are "managing" the stress. Losing a child, well, there are no real words to describe it.

Gilles - my deepest condolences.

You do have friends and colleagues here - and when you wish to return we shall welcome you back.

In the meantime, take each day as it comes.

Regards

Graham

Rosebud,

My condolences to you and your family also.

I don't know if anyone would be interested in this, but here's an icon I made for this script. It's a traffic light in two states, the green 'Go' light goes 'on' when your cursor highlights it.
