I use the BatchGUI script quite a bit. One problem I have always had with it, even before I fixed a few minor bugs (see my post from about a month ago), is that often the second render will take 10x longer than it should.
I just completed a render using this script and this darn thing happened again.
I simply rendered two different times using a loop selection. The first render was MPEG-2 using the DVD Architect template, and the second render was AC-3 using the Stereo template. The first render completed in normal time (about 1.5 hours for a project that is about 1.5 hours long). However, as soon as the AC-3 render started, the system almost came to a standstill and started giving estimates of 12 hours or more.
I have found that when this happens, the only solution, on my XP Pro SP1 system, is to re-boot and then do the AC-3 render without a script. Doing this, the AC-3 render on the project just described completed in only ten minutes.
Other people have reported problems with the AC-3 portion of this script not rendering 5.1 correctly, and Sony acknowledged a problem that will be fixed in the next release. I don't know whether this is the same problem or not, but I'd sure like to see it fixed.
The reason I still use the script is that sometimes the darn thing works. Go figure.
