scrolling text w/transparent over video clip

I'm trying to get scrolling credits to appear over the video clip. I keep getting a black background. I'm choosing Text/Backgrounds then Scrolling on Transparent. Then dragging it over the video clip.

I'm able to create this in Premiere with my eyes closed but can't get it to work with Vegas?

If by "dragging it over the video clip" you mean you place it on the same track directly on top of the video clip, this is the problem.

What you want to do is place the title on it's own track, above the video clip you want to appear "beneath" it.

The idea of multiple video tracks, transparency, compositing, masks, parent-child relationships, etc. is a pretty powerful feature of VV. If you aren't comfortable with it, you might want to review the manual.

You need to set the background color opacity to clear.
This is option on the scrolling text dialog box. (I am at work now so I can not say exactly how to).
It works I have done it!
