Scrub Control Crashing Vegas 4.0e

My OS is Windows XP Professional SP1 with all updates applied running on a Compaq Deskpro EN P3 733Mhz with 512MB RAM. I have recently purchased the Bella DV Keyboard to enhance my use of Vegas Video 4.0e and my problem is every time I try to use the scrub control to move forward or reverse rapidly through a single event or multiple events (video/audio or audio by itself or video by itself) the CPU goes 100% and Vegas crashes. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I ran into this:

Sound reversed during render

It turned out to be related to a bug in the scrub control. Read the thread and several people refer to it as an old Vegas bug. I don't know whether it is related to what you are experiencing.

Is it possible that with a relatively ancient machine, scrubbing vigoursly would cause freezes?

In Vegas preferences choose a different sound driver. This should solve it.

That seems to have solved the problem, Vegas defaulted to the Direct sound device and it must have been what was causing the problem......THANKS!
