SCS has purchased Velvetmatter's video FX technolo

From Velvetmatter's web page (http://www.velvetmatter.com/ ):

"Sony Creative Software has recently purchased some of Velvetmatter's underlying video FX technology. At this time, Velvetmatter has chosen to discontinue sales of the Radiance suite of software plug-ins for Sony Vegas Pro.

Activation server and legacy downloads will remain available for existing customers. Velvetmatter is committed to your complete satisfaction. Existing Radiance owners should continue to direct support inquiries to support@velvetmatter.com."

Maybe Sony plans to release some interesting new effects / features in the upcoming Vegas Pro 9? At least this should indicate that Vegas is not "dead".

Hopefully this will be a great move for Sony as well as for Velvet Matter. And I tend to agree- Sony Vegas is not dead.

This could be awesome news - the Velvetmatter plug ins are AMAZING and very flexible. If they came bundled with Vegas that would be great news, if SCS wants to use their code as a jumping off point for even cooler stuff - color me interested!

My compliments to Sony for doing what Adobe has done many times. Instead in house developement, acquire the product or service that already does it well.

This is indeed good news.... although I'm not too surprised. Contrary to certain "wide reports", vegas is NOT dead and in fact continues to grow.

If my memory serves me well though this is pretty close to inhouse development anyway, perhaps "exhouse" would be more apt.

Yeah, I seem to remember hearing that the Velvetmatter developer(s) used work for SoFo/SMS/SCS.

Perhaps Sony hired them again, in addition to buying the tech.

It does seem the SCS has something cooking for Vegas 9

Yes ! Velvetmatter plug-ins are one of the best for Vegas - hopefully there will be some nice extra's or additions in the future!

Whoot! Love this plug in and actually use it quite a bit. Hope this serves as a subtle hint to the folks that have been so vocally trumpeting "The Sky Is Falling!" about Vegas, doesn't seem like a move they would make if they didn't have plans to keep going. =)

I totally agree with you, Yoyodyne. Velvetmatter plugins are the BEST Vegas plugins out there, by far. You can obtain amazing, really professional results with them, impossible to achieve with the other ones.

And this really looks like as a strategic move for SCS, which makes me hope for a future of real development for Vegas. So, go on this way, SCS.

Bye everyone.

Interesting you say that because I was looking at the controls on some of those effects and the style looks extremely similar to the controls found in Pro Titler. Did Velvet have anything to do with developing pro titler?
