SD to HD / Mixed video

RodC wrote on 1/24/2009, 7:42 AM
I have a couple of projects that I want to mix some SD footage with some HD footage. The low res of the SD is OK and the effect I'm looking for, so I don't want to correct the noise and the pixelation. However, the SD video is choppy after I render it. (The HD looks fine.) I have tried to force the resample of the SD clips, but that doesn't help. If I render in a lower res it looks OK.

Any suggestions that I can try in Vegas?

SD Video: 29.97, 720x489, PAR .9

HD Video: 29.97, 1440x1080, PAR 1.33

Rendering as: 30 fps, 1280x720, CBR, WMV 9, 1 Mbps.

TIA

Have you tried the opposite? Disable the resample.
I have upgraped many SD movies to HD without a problem. Some were rendered from 20fps to 30fps.

"Rendering as: 30 fps, 1280x720, CBR, WMV 9, 1 Mbps."

You're rendering to a very high resolution at a very low bitrate. That's not generally considered a happy situation. Why?

This seemed to yeild the best results for YouTube. I had a couple of different bit rates checked as well, higher ones, but it seemed to work just fine at this low.

Well, if it is on Youtube, you could post a link so we can see what you mean by "choppy" rather than have to guess.

I had it set to private until I could fix it, but check out the intro footage to this one:

Looks like it was shot at 18 or 24 or 25 fps, not 29.970

Seems to me it needs more fps. It is choppy.

Nope it was shot 29

If that was the case wouldnt it still be choppy at just a lower res? If I render it smaller, but the same frame rate, its fine.

You got me, RodC. I'm drawing a blank on this one. You shot in 29 fps and it's jumpy. How does it do in the preview screen before rendering?

Anybody else want to jump in?

Looks fine in the preview or if I render 30 fps, 720x408, CBR, WMV 9, 1 Mbps.

Thanks for the replies, Im going to try a higer Mbps. Ill post results.

Check this:
1) In project properties, match media settings to your hd-files.
2) Activate resample

If this was the case, just for matter of experiment, do this:
1) In project properties, match the media settings to your sd-files
2) Activate resample

Thanks Ivan123, I always do the match media on the largest vid, that helps during editing.

musicvid hit it on the head, moving to 3Mbps fixed it. Of course its bigger now, I may try something like 2 or so, but for now I think its OK.

Thanks for the replies.
