Search only goes back two years...

I was trying earlier today to find a post I had made in the past. I was surprised to discover that the Search function only searches up to the past two years. I was eventually able to find my 3-year-old post by laboriously going through my list of posts (2,000+!--what a pain), but there must be an easier way. Obviously the forum software can do it if it can find my own posts going back forever. Maybe they don't want to bog down the server, but I think a lot of utility is lost in limiting the search function this way.

true, but i'd prefer if it searched two years ahead ;-)

That is probably how they sped up the site. Personally the archive was worth more than the extra speed. It was a goldmine of information that enabled us users to answer most of our own questions.

Please restore it.

i just tried using the search tool. found my very first post:

change the date range to "any" & you can go back all the way. nothing was lost. i could go back to the first usage of the word "vegas" but at 100 posts per search listing & 132,872 posts, that's a lot of "next page" clicks. :)

We need a page # listing & the top of the search so we can skip around.

You are right. In fact, once I searched for the oldest post in the archive.

It's still there.

I can't believe it. It was really, REALLY, stupid of me to have overlooked that search constraint (or lack thereof) at the top of the list.

I guess what happened is that my search was defaulted to the "6 months" limit, and I naturally looked downward at the longer periods, with the longest being 2 years. So I guess I could claim that the "any date" should logically belong at the bottom of that list, but in reality I should have looked more carefully before posting a complaint.

The default was probably changed. I am happy you posted this. It provided us with an opportunity to remind the forum people just how much we need and want the archive left intact.

i think they did change the default. i don't remember it defaulting to 6 months but "any".
