Searching Markers or Regions?

mjr wrote on 11/22/2009, 9:13 AM
Hello,

is there any way to search Marker or Region (saved in media or timeline) by name? Directly in Vegas? I do that I must export marker log and then search in Excel or PDF. It was cool if you can scan it in Vegas and view target in Trimmer or Timeline...

I don? know if it is possible to make script for this, but maybe this is challenge :-)

Thanks
Martin

" . . is there any way to search Marker or Region (saved in media or timeline) by name?" Yes. Yes there is.

" Directly in Vegas? " Yes, again.

"It was cool if you can scan it in Vegas and . . " And it is very cool!

" . . view target in Trimmer or Timeline... " - Ah! Timeline YES - But Trimmer, if MORE than one Event - No.

Your options are:

A] Vegas Edit Detail View - This shows you just WHAT Regions you have in a list. But there is not an auto GoTo option with this, you'd need to copy the "IN" t/c and paste this into the "Cursor Position" Window (Ctrl+G)

B] GoTo Script (excellent!) - http://sony.vegas.1.free.fr/Free scripts for Sony Vegas - by "Rosebud" a.k.a. Gilles . .. [/link] - Download the "GoTo" script.

There is absolutely no reason to use a script. Just make sure the Edit Details view is enabled (View -> Edit Details). Then, follow the directions here:

Copy Markers to/from Excel

I didn't get/read a desire/want to copy Markers? I read this as only being part of a search for markers/regions, hence my idea of using the GoTo script?

Thank you for your answers,

but it's not I mean. I know about Edit Details, but there is no function to find marker, you can only watch the list. And you can show Markers/Regions presented in timeline only, am I right? My vision is that you can use search engine like text processor. In Acrobat Reader you can press Ctrl+F, type word "exterior" and you can switch between findings by clicking the button "Next" or "Prev".

So my vision in Vegas:

1st step: I press keyboard shortcut, in dialog window I type the word I want to search in Marker/Region data of ALL media used in project (in Project Media pool), there should be a checkbox, you should choose if the script would scan Marker or/and Regions, and another checkbox to "scan Markers/Regions in timeline" option. And button "Search".

2nd step: After I press the "Search" button, the dialog window would view the list of search matches. Ideally you click one of them and you open the media's Marker/Region in Trimmer (or in the timeline if the found match is from timeline). Cursor goes to Marker or select Region. There would be buttons "Next"/"Prev" to navigate between matches (each shift viewed in Trimmer or Timeline).

Yes, this is little big app, maybe wish for Vegas 10! :-)
But I thing It is real to make such a script which scan the Project media's SFL, show matches and go to the timecode in Trimmer. You can use the media's Marker/Region in as "keyword". I do that, but I copy the Markers of each media to Excel, then I make PDF to quick search and navigate... It is very useful when I work with tens hours of material. But I am an editor, not coder (and English isn't my own language, sorry).

Thank you for your interest.

You should have a look at my “Goto” custom command:
-There is a text filter.
-you are able to move Cursor to the Event, markers or region by double clicking a field.
However, it works with Markers/Regions in timeline, not media.

Yes, the "GoTo" extension is perfect! It is very close to my wish. Thank you

The GoTo extension is not working in Vegas Pro 15. It appears that the code needs to be updated since Magix purchased Vegas Pro (and released version 14).

Is there another extension that works in a similar way... allowing to search text within regions (and double click the individual lines within the search results to access the region)?

I produce corporate videos and transcribe all of my interviews within Vegas Pro (using regions)... and find the GoTo extension to be incredibly useful.

If the script editable, you need to modify it a little.

Thanks, but unfortunately, I didn't write the script... I only have the dll file. From what I understand (I'm not a coder), it's very difficult to modify the dll file. I tried contacting the guy that I think wrote the script (known as Rosebud in this forum), but no response after a week's wait.

Actually, I think the best alternative would be to have the Transcriptive plugin developed for Vegas Pro
