Secondary Preview

JHendrix wrote on 8/8/2024, 3:41 AM

At this point I am guessing I need real pro video hardware and the answer is what I have wont work...but just checking.

I have:

Vegas 12

13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900K   3.00 GHz

RTX 4080

ASUS TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI

and a basic TV:

Samsung CU7000B

Did not matter If I swap HDMI plug positions in ASUS or 4080 the result is I can Extend Displays but if I do when i press Preview on External in Vegas I get only a small section of a large video image on the TV.

If I choose Duplicate, vegas can fill the whole screen and looks great but of course I cant work that way.

I attached image of what it looks like in Extend mode

In preferences and display does checking "alternate high DPI" help?

@RogerS  ... Unfortunately, Vegas Pro 12 doesn't have a high DPI option in Preferences - unless of course the OP made a typo and meant VP21, but the uploaded image does look like VP12.

Unfortunately, Dex is correct. VP12 isn't compatible with 4K screens. You'll have to update, or set windows to only send 1080p to that TV.

Got it, never used a 4K screen with any version of VEGAS.

I would say that for such modern hardware a newer version would take fuller advantage of it (GPU-supported decoding/encoding) as well as support such screens with high DPI modes.

Your hardware should run V22. Your 13900K will have integrated graphics built in and available via MB output. connect that to your TV via HDMI. Under options, prefs, preview device select 'windows graphic card and apply. If you now go to main screen and click on 'double window' 2nd from left above preview screen your TV should echo the preview window. This connection will also enable 'Intel Quick Sync'..Other options include installing BlackMagic card eg IP4K or similar.

Maybe download a trial of V22 & test.

V22 works perfect no config necessary. Unfortunate like before it wont open my project that was created in V12

VEGASDerek wrote on 8/8/2024, 3:04 PM

@JHendrix

Hmm....the project should be able to be imported into VPro 22. If possible, it would nice if you could provide the VEGAS team your project file so we can determine why this is not able to be opened in VPro 22.

JHendrix wrote on 8/8/2024, 3:12 PM

ok how would i do that? note: as i said i have tried to upgrade a few time over recent years and that is why i did not. not sure if it was same error though since its been a while.

also, when you say import you mean Open right? I dont see a "project import" option in import only "media"

It opened fine for me in VEGAS Pro 22. It couldn't find your media, obviously, because it wasn't included with the project file, but the project did open.

then the error above "the file is an unsupported format" must be referring to a media file...hummm

fr0sty wrote on 8/9/2024, 2:26 AM

Just out of curiosity... it says "14.2 V22.veg." Is that "." that is after ".veg" in the filename? If so, rename it so it isn't there.

Can you share that specific project file? It has a different name than the one you posted above.

the period is just part of the error message. the file is .veg I just tried again and it starts to load files in lower right then gives error. reminds of of many similar bugs of days gone past where i had to work voodoo to open some. in addition to regular media / video. in this case the project does have a few different formats the possible suspect could be some mp4s that are youtube rips?

but all video types in project are

.mp4

.mts

.mov

.avi

If a media file was unable to open in the project, the project should still open, but just not that specific file. Can you try importing the media files themselves into VEGAS 22, and see if they will import into a new project? That will isolate if it's the media, or if it's the project file itself.

Just a wild guess, but you may need to turn on the QuickTime codec in the deprecated preferences.
