Sel. prerendered avi corrupted on sec. display

megabit wrote on 7/14/2009, 11:52 AM
Do you also have this bug?

When I selectively prerender to avi (using any of the available codecs) and play the portion back, it's OK in the preview window but not on the secondary display monitor (full screen). Namely, the right hand side portion of the screen is blank, and the picture is B&W.

After re-loading the project (of course assuring the prerenders are intact), all is OK...

What happens if you tear off the preview window & drag it to the 2ndary monitor?

What happens if you play with the preview settings? On my rig/install, only 1 setting will work properly -- the others show more artifacts than video.

Tearing the preview window off and dragging it to the secondary monitor acts just as expected - everything looks OK in it.

But so does re-loading the project...

Well, I guess it's some sort of the display driver/hardware problem.

"Tearing the preview window off and dragging it to the secondary monitor acts just as expected - everything looks OK in it."

Well that at least gives you some direction to work in, if you choose to, or maybe a work-a-round that could be usable till it's fixed, but don't know that (or if) it's any better than a reload.

"Well, I guess it's some sort of the display driver/hardware problem."

I don't think so... I'd suspect that if the torn off window didn't work. I think it''s more a problem of how Vegas interacts with Windows, .NET, &/or vid card drivers. The preview settings should effect, but not break 2ndary display -- shutting off the preview window while viewing preview on 2nd display doesn't work for me, as it apparently does for others -- ideally shouldn't have any playback smoothness issues [ala Vista/Win7 media center] on 2nd monitor -- Vegas shouldn't take a performance hit [again ideally] when previewing on 2nd monitor using the preview window button.

I can understand Sony's difficulties if they're trying to accommodate various DS rendering filters & methods in XP/Vista/7, along with different versions of .NET. .NET 3 or 3.5 intro'd EVR, as in Vista/7. Traditional video overlays may or may not be there. And the other software you have installed can effect how video's rendered on your system. All in all a pretty large can of worms.

After rethinking, I guess you might be right. If it were a graphics driver problems, the same would happen with other formats, not just avi.

On the other hand, the weak response to this thread suggests I'm the only one with this problem (and it happens in both V8 and V9)....

Thanks, anyway.

I have this exact same problem.

Just wondering are you also pre-rendering PAL DV avi video?

If other people don't have the trouble maybe they're fine because they're using NTSC DV video.

just a thought...

really hoping 9.0a comes soon, there are just so many bugs with ver9

Don't know why they need to package them all together into one huge .0a version

I would be much happier rolling out the patches as they are fixed.
gwailo wrote on 7/21/2009, 11:27 PM
9.0a has not fixed the problem

Help please - more details.

i have 2 x 4850 ATI video cards

monitors 1 & 2 are my workspace both being driven by Card #1 at 1920x1200

monitor #3 is being driven by the second video card at 1360 x 768 (it's a flat screen PAL tv with an analog computer input)

Project is DV Pal
project media is *.mp4 (have also tried this with *.mov quicktime dv pal files)

After selectively pre-rendering anything on the timeline the secondary display goes black & white and scrunches to the left

Error will not go away until Vegas is restarted. Error does not happen in version 8.

Found this thread as I searching....

I have updated to 9.0b, and seems the problem still there.
I prerendered to DV 16:9 PAL (my area is PAL system), then there's something need to be fixed., I edit them, and prerendered again, then 2nd display goes blank (my 2nd display is IEEE1394 DV output).

Also, as I seen it, Vegas 9.0b seems have trouble 'changing' from/to prerendered part and NON-prerendered part.

Vegas 8.0c still the most stable I've ever used.

This for Vegas Pro 9b and PAL-DV Prerendered and viewed on:

1 - Video Preview pane = GOOD

2 - External Monitor through FW IEEE = GOOD

3 - Samsung Secondary Monitor = BAD! - Crushed to left hand side, filling only 75% of screen and in Black and White.

NB: Samsung Secondary Monitor works perfectly in VP8c.

I need to Close and then Re-Open Vegas for this to work. Any further Prerendering and I get the same issue.

Grazie

I've had this issue for 9, 9a and 9b

I've sent in a ticket.

Sony's reply...

Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software.

I have been able to reproduce the issue on my system here in the department.

Because this incident involves very detailed technical aspects of the programming and design of our software, I will be consulting with our Development and QA team to try and resolve this issue.

Please understand, that because this issue is so technical in nature, and because these other teams have a rather large workload, it may take some time to solve this problem. I will be setting this incident to development status during this time and will update this incident once I have further information from them. Thank you for your patience while we continue to research this matter.

so hopefully they will solve it in 9.0c or at least acknowledge this as a known problem

gwailo, Thanks for letting SCS know.

BTW, where on this website I 'could sent a ticket'?
Is it through Support>Technical Support ?

go to the menu at he top of every page - click - "my account"

then select "my support"

then click "ask a question" which you'll find in the bottom left of the screen

don't expect an answer like what I got on the first try.... you'll have to pass through at least 2 levels of stock responses before they'll even read your question.

I've had this problem from when 9.0 came out. I never had the patience or time to persist in trying to get it fixed until 9.0b still didn't fix the issue.

I'm still stuck using 8.0c because of this issue. I hope either a fresh install of windows (win7) will clear up the issue in october, or 9.0c comes out and fixes it.

Otherwise, I guess I'll just wait for 10.

This is still happening and can repro this very easily.

What I have noticed is that prior to Prerendering, with these two scenarios A] & B] :-

A] ISSUE - 2nd monitor ENGAGED on Preview Toolbar then played

B] NO ISSUE - 2nd monitor NOT ENGAGED on Preview Toolbar then played

It would appear that having the 2nd monitor engaged PRIOR creates OR displays this issue. NOT having the 2nd monitor engaged prior to Prerendering DOES NOT!

No problems with "Render to New Track", . .. which is nice . . . .
