Select Events to End Problems...Cure?

JazzyG wrote on 3/7/2006, 1:30 PM
Hello members of the forum, I am currently using Vegas 5 and I love it. However, I am having a problem when moving events on the timeline.

For instance, I have multiple tracks, several video and audo. On Track 1 are short events (still pics, short vid clips). When I select events to end to move the entire project the events on track one don't move, so I have to go and physically select them one by one in order to move them with the entire project, is there a better way.

Hope I stated the problem correctly, your thoughts pls.

I use a script to "select everything after the cursor".

Learn to use Ripple Edit. Don’t keep it on all the time but when you want to move everything on multiple tracks (including markers) it can be very handy (works better in Vegas 6). Just look it up in the Help.

there's a very simple script I use a hundred times a day that does what you want. Basically it will select all events on all tracks under and after the cursor...I think that's what you want. Scripts are easy to install and use. With this one, I've assigned one of my keys to be a shortcut to the script. email me if you want it:

I think I see how ripple edit works if I want to move the entire project. What happens if I have in issue midpoint and need to move everything down from that point so I can add an event, would ripple edit allow me to select all tracks from that point and move those events keeping everything together (hope that came out right)?

Yes, that’s the idea of the ripple. It makes room for new events in the middle of a project. Another thing you can do is Insert Time. If you know exactly how much time you need the Time option on the Insert menu will move everything on all tracks to the right to insert blank time.

I find that ripple is easier. Make sure you use the mode that is appropriate for what you want to do. You can just ripple one track, ripple all tracks, or ripple all tracks and markers.

Grab the event you want to move down the timeline.

Move it to where you want it.

Click: Shift+CTRL+F

Everything will move including markers and regions, on every track.

If you went too far with the intitial move, grab the clip and move it back.

Click: Shift+CTRL + F again.
