selected audio adjustment

i have an event where the first 10 seconds contains audio and video that I want to keep grouped, but the audio is much louder than the rest of the event. I want to select just the audio portion of seconds 2 thru 10 and lower the volume but keep the content and grouping the same. Can someone instruct me how that is accomplished.

thanks

Does Vegas Studio have volume envelopes? Click on the audio clip, then look under Insert / Envelopes for Audio. If it's there you're all set. The audio envelope will show up as a thin blue line through the middle of the track. Double-click on the line to add nodes. You can then drag these nodes up and down to adjust the volume.

If it doesn't have envelopes then you'll have to split the event at 2 seconds and 10 seconds. Hover the mouse pointer at the top edge of the event, click, and drag down. A blue line will appear in just that section of the audio. The farther you drag it down the softer it will get. After adjusting the volume select all the parts of the clip and press G to group them again.

I located the envelopes tool. I've been able to figure out how to click on the blue line and add pointers, but when I lower the blue line between the two points, to decrease the volume, it doesn't take affect. Is there a command that "activates" the markers?

Also, when I put in "audio envelopes" in the help menu, I've not been able to locate a good, newbie tutorial showing how to use this tool. Can anyone recommend a good tutorial for this action?

thanks again,

You need to add two points at the start of the time range and two points at the end of the time range. The "outer" points anchor the volume setting before and after the time range. You then just pull down on the blue line between the two "inner" points to reduce volume or conversely pull up to increase volume. Time between the inner and outer points sets the fade rate between the two volume settings. You probably want about one second spacing for a reasonable fade rate.
Good luck,
